Turn and Stick Edging

The edges of the rug are folded over and glued to the underside of the rug. A rubber underlay is then attached to balance the thickness across the whole rug.

This finish requires 10cm of extra material on each side of the rug.

The price shown on this calculator is an estimate and is applicable to rugs 3.5m x 4.0m and smaller. Rugs larger than this size are possible, but please speak to our staff directly to discuss it. This calculator may give a price estimate for products that might not be suitable for turn and stick edges. Our staff can tell you which products are appropriate for your needs.

Self-Bordered Edging

An edge is created using the same sisal material as the rug itself, and attached like a frame on top of the rug.

This finish requires 4 extra strips of material (each 20cm wide) cut from the width of the material.

The price shown on this calculator is an estimate and is applicable to rugs 3.2m x 4.0m and smaller. Rugs larger than this size are possible, but please speak to our staff directly to discuss it. This calculator may give a price estimate for products that might not be suitable for self-bordered edges. Our staff can tell you which products are appropriate for your needs.

Q: What are the price estimates based on?

A: The price estimates include stain-protection. Some products have the stain-protection included already. Our staff will notify you of this if you order and will adjust the price down accordingly. If you would not like any added stain protection, this will reduce the price of a rug slightly. This calculator assumes a standard width binding (for rugs with binding). More binding widths are available in-store. Self-bordered rugs use binding as well; this calculator assumes that self-bordered rugs will use Belgian Jute binding - again more options are available in-store. All our rug estimates are calculated on using the full width of material (see the next point below for more information.).

Q: Which is the width? Which is the length? What about offcuts?

A: These dimensions above reflect how the material is to be cut from a four metre wide roll of woven floor covering. Made-to-measure rugs are sold on the 4 metre width, meaning you pay for a 4 metre wide piece regardless of the size of your rug. Therefore, it is usually more economical to have the width as the larger measurement. All our thumbnails have been photographed the same way - width running across the picture and length running down. For many situations, however, a better visual effect may be achieved by cutting the rug the other way. If you are looking for 2 or more rugs, it may be possible to cut them both from the one 4 metre wide piece of material. Phone us or visit a showroom to discuss your options...

Q: Should I look at a ready-made rug first?

A: If the rug you need is sized close to 1.3 x 1.9m, 1.6 x 2.3m, 1.8 x 2.7m, 2.0 x 3.0m, or 2.4 x 3.3m, then there's a good chance it is already made, waiting for you, at a lower price! We have hundreds of ready-made rugs in both our Mosman and Marrickville galleries. Unlike made-to-measures, ready-made rugs are priced on net measurements only, so you don't pay for any offcuts.

Q: What are turn-and-stick and self-bordered rugs?

A: If you are looking for a rug without binding on the sides, consider a turn-and-stick or self-bordered rug. Turn-and-stick rugs - the sisal is folded under itself on each side, and a rubber underlay is attached in the middle to even out the height across the rug. Self-bordered rugs - the rug is bound with a fabric binding, then a border is created from the same sisal as the rug itself and attached on top of the existing edges. The prices shown on this site are estimates only. Both these methods are more complicated than fabric binding and certain restrictions apply. Please contact us directly for the best price on one of these rugs.

Q: What about round rugs, or rugs made to a custom shape?

A: We can make bound rugs in a variety of shapes or to match a given template. Self-bordered and turn-and-stick rugs can only be rectangles. This tool will give you a price estimate for a rectangular made-to-measure rug. Please speak to us directly for a price estimate on a custom-shaped rug. Cutting and binding on curved edges or non-standard corners can pose complexities that will affect the final price. Woven textiles are flexible and somewhat elastic, please read the question below about measurements.

Q: Will the finished rug match my measurements exactly?

A: We aim to have a finished rug match the supplied dimensions as closely as possible. However, it is not possible to make a rug with dimensions accurate to the millimetre. Our products are woven textiles made from natural fibres. They expand and contract due to temperature and humidity, as well as due to the tensions applied in the binding process.

Q: Can you send me some samples?

A: Of course! Just give us a call or an email with the products you are interested in and we will post some samples to you.
